Feel Better Prepared For Your Lasik Eye Surgery By Learning What To Expect

Blog

If you are going to be getting Lasik eye surgery then you want to learn everything you can about what you can expect to take place that day. This way, you will feel less anxious about going in and having the procedure done. The information provided here will give you a look into the day of your surgery.

Expect it to go quick

Lasik eye surgery is done in an outpatient setting. You want to have someone come with you so they will be able to drive you home after the procedure. The whole procedure should take no longer than an hour unless you have a lot of questions before the procedure.

Before

Before the procedure, you will have some drops put in your eyes to numb them so you won't feel any discomfort while the surgery is taking place. You will then tilt your head back in the chair and a device that's called a lid speculum will be put in place. This device is going to prevent you from being able to blink your eyes while they are being worked on. This device may be irritating, and not being able to blink may be awkward, but the machine won't cause you any pain.

During

Once you're in position and your eyes have been numbed, a laser will cut a flap in your eye and move it out of the way so your cornea is exposed. The laser will then be used to change the shape of the cornea, correcting the problems in your vision. The flap will be flipped back over to cover the cornea and the lid speculums will be removed.

After

You may be asked to stay in the office for a bit right after the procedure for observation, but this shouldn't take long. You will be given a few different types of eye drops to use at home and instructed on when to use them. They will help with the healing process and fend off infection. Your eyes will feel scratchy for a while; this can last for days or weeks depending on how fast you heal. Your vision will be blurry at first, but it will continue to get sharper each day until it's fully corrected.

If you are all set up to have Lasik eye surgery, you should feel more excited about it than nervous. This is going to be a life changing event, especially if your vision is very bad. Now that you know what to expect, set an appointment with a company like Dixie Ophthalmic Specialists at Zion Eye Institute.

Exploring Contact Lens Options

Hello, I am Erica Holsted. I would like to share my knowledge about contact lenses on this website. Contact lenses dramatically changed my life. When I obtained my first pair of glasses, I instantly felt deeply self-conscious. The drop in self-esteem was relentless despite my friends and family telling me I still looked lovely. Thankfully, I talked with an eye doctor about using contact lenses instead. I was able to choose between daily, weekly, monthly and yearly lens options. The soft lenses felt comfortable in my eyes and helped me see perfectly. I still wear my glasses at night, however, to give my eyes a brief reprieve. I will talk about contact lens types, care and wear suggestions on this site. Please come back again soon.
