4 Myths About Your Family's Eyecare


When it comes to you and your family's health, you have to take your eye care seriously, as well. Vision problems can start at any time, which is why your children need check-ups every once in a while, as well. However, you need to be aware of a few myths about vision care to ensure that you are better understanding how you and your family can take care of your vision so that there is less of a chance that problems can come up in the future. Here are four myths about vision and the facts behind them:

  1. Reading in Dim Light Can Cause Damage: You may have heard your parents tell you to stop reading in the dark, which in turn makes you tell your children the same thing. However, this is a myth. The only thing that reading in the dark can do to your eyes is cause fatigue, but nothing serious or damaging. 
  2. Children Can Outgrow Crossed Eyes: If your child is crossed eyed, they are not going to grow out of it, which means that you need to be sure that it is continuously treated so that your child can live comfortably with it for the rest of their lives. There are a number of treatments that could be taken, such as surgery, special eyeglasses, and more. It is important that your child receives the treatment that is recommended by your optometrist. 
  3. Eating Carrots is Good for Your Vision: You don't have to strictly eat carrots in order to put good nutrients in your body for your eyesight. The reason that carrots are considered good for your eyes is because they contain a high amount of vitamin A, which is also found in many other foods. This means you can eat any number of foods besides carrots to help your eyesight. 
  4. Wearing Glasses Causes you to Become Dependent: One reason a number of people refuse to wear reading glasses is because they believe they will become dependent on them and thus need to wear them all of the time. However, this is not true. If you aren't wearing glasses and you have blurry vision, you are straining your eyes, which can cause you to have continuous vision problems that will then lead to the need of wearing glasses 24/7.

Exploring Contact Lens Options

Hello, I am Erica Holsted. I would like to share my knowledge about contact lenses on this website. Contact lenses dramatically changed my life. When I obtained my first pair of glasses, I instantly felt deeply self-conscious. The drop in self-esteem was relentless despite my friends and family telling me I still looked lovely. Thankfully, I talked with an eye doctor about using contact lenses instead. I was able to choose between daily, weekly, monthly and yearly lens options. The soft lenses felt comfortable in my eyes and helped me see perfectly. I still wear my glasses at night, however, to give my eyes a brief reprieve.
